found this in Toronto's GLOBE AND MAIL.....what's up ? created by Pattymaryclare on Sep 25, 2009:

It says you just RECENTLY WENT PUBLIC lol Antonio! There's no search bar still!!!, noone outside U.S. can 'seamlessly' use tabblo online/offline tomake then order products available softbook, poster etc. and NOW YOU'RE trying to make it so we can sell 'stock photos' if desired.....why was this not announced to us in Tabblo publicly? IS that why i'm seeing MORE ANE MORE of the watermarks, copyright etc. on the 'pro profile tabs' so to speak lol ...

There seems to be little or no action on some 'bug fixing' and loss of search bar ...is HP not allotting the proper funding for rudimentary programming fixes?

Really, I thought you'd been public since June 2006? according to stacy's mashup archive site. ;-)

Approve adding to circle. created by S_erez on Aug 9, 2009:
S_erez said at 9:42 p.m. on Aug 9, 2009:
Now that the policy has changed and one can send tabblo notifications only yo people he is added to their circle, why not add a feature something like facebook is using.
When one would want to add someone else to his circle the site will send a question to the user and ask him if he approves the request. if he approves both users will be added to each others circle.

Excellent suggestion.... Eric--I think that is something that should be implemented.

If I post my private pictures with private option, is someone going to be able to see them, Tabblo's staff, for example?
Ericf said at 8:48 a.m. on Jun 22, 2009:
Nope. If you set your photos to private they cannot be seen by members or Tabblo staff. For the most part, the Tabblo accounts of the staff are exactly like yours.

How cool would it be to have a little "REPLY" link so we could not only comment on what someone has said about our Tabblo's, but also notify them of what we said with the same step?

Any possibility of this??
Ericf said at 8:24 a.m. on Jun 10, 2009:
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. How is that different that what we're doing now?
Kevinb5 said at 11:31 a.m. on Jun 10, 2009:
Thanks Eric, I didn't make myself clear. Right now, when I see comments on my Tabblo, I can click "Add a comment" and my reply will look like all the other comments without being obvious that it's a REPLY from the creator of the Tabblo. Also, for the commenters on my Tabblo, they'd have to come back and check to see if I've responded to their comments.

On another site I use for photography (yes, I'm a two-timer!), I can click a REPLY link, and my response shows in a shaded box indented under the commenter's words, AND the commenter gets direct notification of what I said (similar to how Tabblo owners can receive email notification of comments left).

Is that clearer? Or am I missing something and Tabblo already does that?
Kevinb5 said at 5:12 p.m. on Jun 21, 2009:
Eric, no answer on this?
Kevinb5 said at 1:43 a.m. on Jul 29, 2009:
I hear crickets . . .
Ericf said at 9:07 a.m. on Jul 29, 2009:
Sorry about that! It's a decent idea and something I can queue into the engineering stream. My first priority when I get engineering juice is the Search functionality, and then a few other things...but this is certainly a valid idea.
Ericf said at 9:09 a.m. on Jul 29, 2009:
I've got an older request in to mark Tabblo staff with a specific icon/text color...your idea isn't so different than that.

Having not enough time to go through all these features, I am wondering if anyone has suggested a widget for Macs. I for one have just begun to use a Mac and find it hard getting around at the moment, a widget or a logo for tabblo that I could click on and go directly to Tabblo would be a great asset to me. Please let me know user-to-user if there is one or going to be one. User-to-user is the only mail I have at the moment.
Ericf said at 8:05 a.m. on Apr 17, 2009:
It sounds like you're asking for a shortcut to be placed on your desktop. I know my way around PC's but I'm lost on a Mac so perhaps I can get one of our Mac guys to chime in.

I do like the concept of a Tabblo widget, and we have a "Blog Badge" that will display your tabblos, or your favorite tabblos on your blog. I'm certainly open to compelling functionality suggestions though so by all means please share your ideas.

Hi, Tukey here.

If you save an open Tabblo page to bookmarks (ie your home page), you will have bookmark with a Tabblo icon. (that is the way it works if you are using Firefox anyway). Let me know if this helps.

Favourite Photo and.... created by L810th on Jan 28, 2009:
L810th said at 5:45 p.m. on Jan 28, 2009:
I am just adding this as an idea, as I know there are more pressing issues. On several occasions I have found one or more exquisite photos in amongst many photos of a single Tabblo. At times I am struggling to make the whole Tabblo a Favourite or not, as it may not merit that title.
Could there be a single photo Favourites, and if so could there be an option of collating these single favourites into a Gallery/Tabblo where they can be viewed along side other members work that was also chosen by one the one member. That Tabblo could be a forum for discussion with/without textual reasons for choosing them as a favourite.
I know this sounds long winded and involves ownership rights ect. but I think that some images go un-noticed lost within the lesser viewed Tabblos.

Ericf said at 1:24 p.m. on Jan 29, 2009:
That's an interesting idea. I'm not sure how these favorite photos would manifest themselves...perhaps on a "Top Photo" page? I'll chew on this idea for a while and let you know if anything comes of it. Thanks for taking the time to make a suggestion, it's appreciated.

Folders to group Tabblos created by CECT on Jan 26, 2009:
CECT said at 8:40 a.m. on Jan 26, 2009:
Back to the Tabblos of vacations subject, how about the ability to group them in folders? I make a series of tabblos and link them one after the other but when I go to the View My Tabblos I have to scroll through all those "pages" if I want to get to something else. If they could be grouped in folders ("France Vacation" "Party Tabblos", etc.) getting to old tabblos would be more efficient.

Also, in my previous suggestion about rulers I should have said that I'd like to be able to see where 11 inches falls, not 8.5.

Connie
Ericf said at 8:46 a.m. on Jan 26, 2009:
These are both great suggestions. It would be great to create categories/folders for your work. Having more creative control over how your works are viewed would also be nice.

The ruler idea is sound and I could see an overlay grid option would be helpful. I'll bring these up. Thanks for the great ideas!

Filenames as captions?? created by Kevinb5 on Dec 22, 2008:
Kevinb5 said at 1:05 a.m. on Dec 22, 2008:
Is this feature already available?? I'd like to create captions automatically with the filenames of each photo.
Ericf said at 3:23 p.m. on Jan 6, 2009:
No that feature isn't available, but it's an interesting idea. Thanks!
Kevinb5 said at 11:09 a.m. on Jan 26, 2009:
If we can't yet have filenames as captions, how about selectively adding captions to SOME photos? Right now it's either all or none, right?
YorkJodi said at 2:09 p.m. on Jan 26, 2009:
Kevin... maybe you already know this... but in case you don't... right now it is all or none for captions... but you don't HAVE to put a caption under each photo...when you finish some will have your captions and some will just be blank... it won't say anything under them. Jodi
Kevinb5 said at 3:18 p.m. on Jan 26, 2009:
Thank you, Jodi! I did not know that. Thanks for cluing me in!

How about a ruler? created by CECT on Dec 21, 2008:
CECT said at 6:47 p.m. on Dec 21, 2008:
I like to print out the Tabblos I make of our vacations. If I had a ruler alongside the Tabblos I could design them so there was a break at 8.5 inches. Now when I print there are often large empty spaces at the bottoms of pages because, rather than cutting photos in half, they are moved down to the next page.

Hi, everyone!
I have a problem, I can`t manage Tabblo on my groups. The order Yabblo turned itself off, and now the new Tabblo caught in the end, and old at the beginning. If I click the asterisk to change tabblo on top of the page, the movement does not occur.
Help me, please!

Welcome created by Lifequest22 on Sep 25, 2008:
Lifequest22 said at 12:55 p.m. on Sep 25, 2008:
It would be nice if Tabblo had a welcome blurb which explains what Tabblo is and "What's New/Updates" on the Home page. It would make it more friendly and inviting. and a link to about Tabblo which is currently located on the botton and seems obscure. I noticed a little header: "News." But it's barely noticeable.

Well, just a suggestion.

Please add text and interlocking photo layout! created by HebronMommy on Jul 25, 2008:
HebronMommy said at 10:34 p.m. on Jul 25, 2008:
I know I requested this before, but there was no response. I LOVE the photo size options on the Interlocking Photos layout where the photos can be anything from little squares to all the way across the page, but please create this layout with a text added option. It is so time consuming to go back and add text later. And, trying to build the tabblo from the lightbox is almost impossible with so many teeny, tiny pictures! Please! Thank you!
Ericf said at 9:14 a.m. on Aug 5, 2008:
You can certainly drag a text block into any one of the fields on any of the formats, even the interlocking photo format. Try it and let me know how it works out for you.
HebronMommy said at 3:42 p.m. on Aug 20, 2008:
I know you can drag text blocks in, and I do, but when I'm working with a 100 photos or so, it's a matter of continuing to shift them all down to make room for the text blocks, as I add quite a few. If I try to work with the photos from the lightbox, they're really too small to see and it's really hard to do. It would just be so much easier to have an interlocking photo layout (that uses all the sizes of photos, even the little squares) that also inserts text blocks that I can move around or just have them create negative space that I can move to where I need to add text.

Text options?? created by HebronMommy on Jul 1, 2008:
HebronMommy said at 3:56 a.m. on Jul 1, 2008:
Will there be a way to change text style or at least color again. I miss being able to customize the color of my title and of the text boxes without having to change each box individually.
Ericf said at 8:55 a.m. on Jul 1, 2008:
You can customize those features by clicking the "Style" tab while in edit mode and then click the "Customize a Style" link on the left side of the new tab.

If you have any trouble make sure to let me know.

I know everyone would like the search functionality restored. We're all Tabblo users ourselves and see the value in being able to search through Tabblo content.

We're investigating our options and plan on reinstituting the search functionality in the mid-term future. Thanks for being patient while we work on this issue.
Akeke said at 3:24 a.m. on Jun 27, 2008:
I actualy found a workaorund: See http://www.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view/1516342/

Since the search box is removed I discovered another way to search. I just add a tag with the "word" I am looking for and then click Tag. Tada!

Example: You are looking for Prague. Add a tag "Prague" to any Tabblo, then click the tag Prague.

So, how long is "Soon" going to be?
Perusing through this feature list, and looking at this topic, it seems that the request for "Search" has been out there for many months.

I am shocked and significantly surprised that there is not a Search on a professional site as this is. And even more so that it was taken off in the first place.
Akeke said at 11:50 a.m. on Nov 19, 2008:
As we have not got any explanation we can only guess. The search function was remove after a new owner (HP). Maybe they want to degrade the site?? Perhaps Tabblo.com cant afford a server for search-index? Perhaps someone don't want people to connect? Can you think of any plausible reasons??

Expand or Flow Down Feature or Add Text to Interlocking Layout created by HebronMommy on Jun 24, 2008:
HebronMommy said at 5:00 p.m. on Jun 24, 2008:
I would love it if you would add a feature that would shift down or un-overlap the pictures by moving things down. Or, if you would add a layout that is the interlocking mix of photos that includes the small sizes (where pictures can be a small square or a long stretch across the page) that also includes text. My problem is that I add text into my Tabblo, but my favorite layout is the interlocking mix of photos where I have the most control over their sizes. However, when I change the sizes around manually and make some larger and add text, it requires me to constantly drag all the photos down to add space. I used to be able to switch between manual and automatic mode and it would flow the photos down and adjust the text boxes I added or the resizing I'd done. Thank you for any help!
I know that one work around is to add photos as I go, but I usually work with a 100 photos or more and it's so hard to see them in the little light box. It's much easier to move them around within the Tabblo.
Ericf said at 2:07 p.m. on Jun 25, 2008:
Have you attempted to use the "Reflow to fit" option under the "Advanced" tab in the editing toolbox?
HebronMommy said at 4:38 a.m. on Jul 1, 2008:
Yes, I tried "reflow" and it was the disaster I anticipated. Everything I had arranged already got reshuffled and moved around and completely messed up. I'm so thrilled that the "undo" is finally working - that's wonderful, because it's the only thing that saved me!

User inbox filling up! created by AliDar on Jun 18, 2008:
AliDar said at 6:19 p.m. on Jun 18, 2008:
I'm starting to get worried about the amount of messages in my Tabblo inbox. I would like to clear out a lot of the past messages I've received but doing so one at a time is a major pain. Is there anyway that could be implemented that would make it so that we could select more than one message at a time, so we can delete a large grouping of them at once?
ConnieL said at 9:20 p.m. on Jun 18, 2008:
I agree with Dar...a way to delete more than one at a time would be great. Also, perhaps I've missed it, but is there a way to delete from the sent folder?

Saulblum said at 11:55 p.m. on Jun 1, 2008:
You can add as many photos as you'd like. Start with one of the basic layout styles that arranges all the photos in a grid, and then start resizing from there. Under the Advanced tab, you can turn on overlapping. There isn't a way, however, to angle photos beyond multiples of 90°.

Contacts/My Circle created by MrsPinz on May 28, 2008:
MrsPinz said at 10:00 a.m. on May 28, 2008:
I've been begging for a way to organize my contacts from practically the beginning of Tabblo. It would be really great to be able to have different contact lists, like friends, family, business, etc, with different privacy settings for each group (i.e. only people from my "friends" list can see certain tabblos, "family" can't view my "friends" tabblos, etc).

In that vein, I really need to be able to identify my invitees! Once they register with Tabblo and have a screen name, the email address is hidden. And often the screen names bear no resemblance to the email addresses. If nothing else, please continue to map the email->screen name in the list of invitees.
Pdtclan57 said at 12:00 p.m. on May 28, 2008:
I agree with all of this. Would be a big help. I have never understood the reason why email addresses would be blocked from me, given they are my invitees. I'd also like to see the screen names as I have defined them (ie same as my address book) along with the eMail addresses.

Hope you get some action on this.

This is actually a Tabblo Feature Request... rather than a gripe about issues...

See my tabblo above... Is it possible to have some sort of a map that would show where the people in your circle live... Similar to what ClustrMaps does for blogs...
OR will ClustrMaps work, to join it, add it to your tabblo home page??

Is anyone else interested in this?? You could "collect" people from all over the world, see how many countries are represented. I think that would be fun!!

Thanks for "thinking about this"... Jodi

Lack of feedback in this forum is not accurately reflective of frustration created by HebronMommy on May 23, 2008:
HebronMommy said at 8:48 a.m. on May 23, 2008:
Until I sent an e-mail to "contact us" and was told about the Tabblo Feature Requests, I had not even known it was here. I was encouraged to share my frustrations this way so that others could comment, too. Until then, every comment I had to make went directly through the contact us e-mail. I would bet that there are lots of others, like me, who are very frustrated with the new controls or the lack of the controls, but don't know how to let you know. So, when only a few people say they want a certain control back, I'd multiply that number by 5 or 10 or more to get a more accurate number of who feels that way.

Please add "automatic" back; thank you for adding manual back! created by HebronMommy on May 23, 2008:
HebronMommy said at 8:44 a.m. on May 23, 2008:
I still can't get a Tabblo to layout correctly since you removed so many tools. I almost always use the interlocking photos layout, but I add text (since there's no layout option that has both) and I also adjust the sizes of the photos. When the Tabblo is created, most of the photos are very small, so I always used the automatic mode to shift the photos down when I make enlargements or add text boxes. It takes so much extra work and time to move 50+ photos in and out of the lightbox (where it's hard to see which ones you're working with) or to manually move everything down and down and down to create the necessary space. Please bring back the automatic or create a control that will shift down any overlapped photos/textboxes to create space.
Or, like I suggested before, could you have 2 sets of tools - an advanced and a basic. Those of us who are used to and want and need the old tools could use the advanced tab and everyone else could use the basic.

Hi Ericf,
I am not having troubles adding photos uploaded after I have begun a Tabblo, but I do not seem to be able to put a photo from a Tabblo in work back onto the lightbox. Am I missing something obvious? This used to be the way I would rearrange the order of photos in a layout.

Related question: how can I prepare my photos before upload so that they make the initial Tabblo in the order I intend? Now they seem to upload in random order. PT
Pdtclan57 said at 12:05 p.m. on May 28, 2008:
To answer one of my own questions: appears hitting the "dreaded" wastebasket edit control icon in a photo's controls now moves it back to the lightbox. Wonder if it always has(??)

Still could use some advice on how to upload photos in a specific order for the initial Tabblo display before editing.

I have to search for these tabblos & comments myself. They say they care... but that it only affects a few people... and now they have this other issue... so when will they ever fix that.

Is anyone else having this problem... it's surely not JUST ME...

Please bring back our controls. created by AliDar on May 15, 2008:
AliDar said at 2:05 p.m. on May 15, 2008:
Okay, so I've tried to make a new tabblo with the new editing controls, and I'm just about in tears with frustrations. ... first of I use an iMac and iPhoto, so I have to export the photos to a folder somewhere so I can find them with the available uploads provided. I can deal with that, and I guess the iPhoto plugin disappeared awhile ago... but then I tried to use my handy little Firefox plugin Fotofox to upload, and the photos uploaded fine, but there are options with the plugin that allow you to make a tabblo straight from there. You can name the tabblo and set the privacy, all before you even begin. That no longer works. When you click on it's 'View Photos' after the upload, you are sent directly to your all My Photos because a tabblo wasn't created.

Next, I tried to find a layout that fit the size of the photo and cropping I wanted. and there wasn't any. Without the grid choices that we use to have you have to make your image fit in the confines of what is provided by the layout. I couldn't even find a layout , and or style combination, that provided a slot that suited the dimensions of the photos my camera shoots, let alone one that I could use creatively. With the grid choices I was able to either tweak the dimensions to show all of the shot, or resize and crop just the way I wanted it. That can't be done anymore ... so I tried Freeform. Freeform is a joke. There's nothing freeform about it. You still are limited to using a large grid, with the dimensions and spacing decided for you.

Clicking on Manual now only means that you can lay another photo on top of another without them bouncing back into a pre defined position, and even then you have to work at it because if your not careful in your exact placement they will. I haven't tried this yet, but I don't believe overlapping will work any longer, since the photos now always seem bounce into the provided grid, even when you are in Manual mode they still move into position dictated by the large grid underneath.

I have a large screen, as I think many people do, and for those in the know, you use to be able to use the 6 col, no border layout, in manual and with your choice of grid to create a tabblo that had some individuality. By choosing a different grid you were able to get around the no border aspect, you could position your photos where you wanted within the tabblo to create a border with the foreground colour, and there was this little trick I used to extend the border around the bottom by adding a text block beneath my photos but not typing anything, so the foreground border extended around the bottom as well and wasn't cut off anymore. That can no longer be done.

I do however, like the editing tabs; I can get use to the tiny little layout and style icons, with it's descriptive title way off to the left... , and you no longer have to chase the controls all over the page, or click on the button to keep the editing tools in place so that you can access the colour choices on the right, or worry about the fact that if you have too many drop down windows open, you won't be able to see the ok button because it's off of the page. ... And the new graduated colour choice method is wonderful. ... And so is the added ability to change the font, and size of the title. But without grid choices, and the other fine tweaking controls that were included in Manual mode, everything we make from now on has to fit into the layout and style choices provided, and there's no way to be individually creative with your tabblo's design.

I've been at tabblo for well over a year now, and except for my first few tabblos, I haven't created a tabblo without pushing the limits of the provided layouts and styles; what I wanted to do just didn't fit within those confines, and now there isn't any way to do that. The templates might make it easy for those who haven't the time or inclination to be creative with what they make, and that's great; everyone can make a half decent looking tabblo, but for those of us who want more control over what we make, you've taken away our tools. Please bring them back.

Here's one trick I found: If you go to a Tabblo that had the grid set to fine, and make a variation of it, the new one will have the same fine grid. So you could start all your new Tabblos by making a variation of an older one. Not ideal, and the old tools should be put back, but a workaround for now.

Saul you are a genius! I just tried what you suggested, once for a tabblo with the fine grid and once for the middle sized one, and they were there... and I could move my photos around just like always. ... you can change the style and content, but there's one problem, you can't change the layout; if you do, You'll loose the grid and just have the one that now comes with the template. ... I agree with you also, this doesn't mean that the old tools shouldn't be restored. ... Maybe if we had known before hand that these changes were going to occur, we could have stock piled up our own templates. ... Thanks for the work around, not perfect, but it helps!

I used to get a lot of emails regarding difficulty with the floating editor box and the new design was meant to address some of those concerns, which I think it does pretty well. Shortly after we launched the new toolbar we added a few functional features and we'll probably add a few more over the coming weeks as feedback is gathered and analyzed.

This forum is a great place to voice your opinion and suggestions and request features . I encourage each and every one of you to do so and rest assured that we do peruse these forums daily, so your voices are being heard.

I used these options all the time to add space to my Tabblo by making photos larger and then using the automatic layout to shift the photos down or use the compact to fill in space that was created by adjusting photo sizes. I loved going back and forth between those options and manual where I had the control. Please bring these options back. It is almost impossible to use the layout I prefer and not be able to shift the photo sizes and have the Tabblo adjusted. If it was too complicated for some users, you could maybe set up an advanced toolbar and a basic one so that those of us who are used to and love and NEED some of the editing tools that have been deleted can access them again. Oh, and ditto on the grid size control, too.

For those of you that have seen my tabblos, lately most have been having to do with my son and his school. When I first started making them, I would forward them to my son's teacher who instantly fell in love with them. She and I started printing them so we can have them all up for open house which is on June 3rd. Most of them I used the option to change the grid sizing. Now I can't do that. Couple that with all my uploading troubles and I'm afraid to even attempt making any more. The principal at the school asked me if I would be interested in photographing school plays, etc. next year and making tabblos of them to display on the school's bulletin board for all to see. Now I don't know if that's even going to be possible. If by any chance we get the grid options back and uploading becomes easier, I'll jump all over making new Tabblos again! Until then, I guess I'll be a lurker as well. :(

Also, is there a way I can take multiple tabblos and make one book out of it?
Ericf said at 10:41 a.m. on Jan 18, 2008:
When you convert an online tabblo to a book tabblo attempts to place photos in order from left to right and up to down. However, changing formats means your actually changing the layout, so expect to have to make edits.

There's no way to create a variation using more than tabblo that I'm aware of, but it's an interesting idea.

Okay, this might be nitpicking, but I have a lot of user to user messages in my inbox and whenever I think of tidying it up it is so frustrating because I can only select and delete one message at a time. I start doing just that, but find the process so tedious that I give up. I would think that things would work much more smoothly if I hadn't had such a full inbox, and I can only see it as benificial for the server not to be cluttered up with peoples past messages. If everyone has the same problem and reaction, that's alot of space that could probably be put to better use.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could print out a Tabblo onto a pillow or bedspread...they have such beautiful layouts, you really could make something special for that someone special...cool gift...here is a sample of a company that does:

Is Tabblo ever thinking of expanding that way or are they just purely "paper people"?...I was just curious. Anyone else think that is a cool idea?

Thanks,

Double page spread. created by Adilj on Sep 4, 2007:
Adilj said at 9:29 a.m. on Sep 4, 2007:
I am making a photo book and want to add a few double page spreads.
I am currently going down the manual route trying to figure out margins and such.
I think adding a double page spread feature to the book editor would nicely solve all these calculation issues...Considering that the cover page already allows for such a spread would'nt it be easy to add a control to switch two facing pages into single page or double page "mode"?
Dunster said at 10:58 a.m. on Sep 4, 2007:
From a client side, this is pretty easy. But from a production side, this is fiendishly difficult. Printing/cutting/binding has margins of error. We can't consistently make the pages line up close enough to make a consistent, good-looking spread. Something gets stuck too deep in the binding, or it's off by 1/8 of an inch vertically, stuff like that. (For the same reason the editor warns you if you put a text block too close to the edge of the page; we don't want it to get cut up).

We do have one full-spread page: the cover on the bigbook. The cover is a single sheet wrapped around the whole book. There are some beautiful-looking covers out there.
Adilj said at 11:47 a.m. on Sep 4, 2007:
I did not mean to under estimate the production side difficulty. Having the user manually do this just increases the chances of failure though. Maybe one could put a disclaimer that this will not be perfect (and use at your own peril). Also there are sites that allow one to do this. So its not an unsolvable production issue either, is it?

For the moment I am going to go down the manual route, but even here I do not know how much is lost due to binding (and what the margin of error is). I got a couple of different answers when I posted on the issues forum).

Does the book viewer compensate for binding?
Dunster said at 11:54 a.m. on Sep 4, 2007:
The viewer shows the full page as an image.

Part of the image is lost on all four sides - on three sides there is trimming, on the 4th side there is binding. The three trimming edges lose very little. The binding has a bit that is totally lost, and a bit that just gets really deep in. The parts that are deep in are technically not the binding, but they are still really hard to see.

Hello Tabbloites!

I'd like to make a family tabblo. I'd like to share the photos with my family so they can download them. I would NOT like to make my family photos public.

Even if I were to ask my family members to join Tabblo, I have a pile of people in my circle and don't want to share my private photos with them. I'm stuck. Either I get my family to join and clean out my circle so only my family can download the photos, or I have to start a second account. Either way I have to 'FORCE' my family to join if they want to download my pics or I'm forced to make the private pics PUBLIC.

A little help Tabblo! I want to share private photos with people INVITED to a Tabblo only. A kind of My Invited Downloaders on a tabblo by tabblo basis. Any chance?
JeroldsSis said at 2:35 p.m. on Aug 9, 2007:
I had the same problem, too. I didn't really want the Tabblo public because it was just pictures of a pool party with co-workers and I only wanted them to see it but I ended up making it public because I know no one wants to have to join a site to see pics.
AliDar said at 7:54 p.m. on Aug 9, 2007:
Can't you just make the tabblo private and then send them the url?
AliDar said at 8:08 p.m. on Aug 9, 2007:
I just checked, and in the privacy menu there's an option for 'By invitation only' And then once that is check, you can send out invitations to only those you want to see your tabblos. But as far as downloading ability is concerned, I don't believe there is a way that you can make it so that only certain people can download; that option just appears to be a general one, either you allow it, or you don't. ... Hope this helps.

One thing that I've noticed since I've been on Tabblo for a few months now, and have commented on a lot of tabblos, is that the length of that list on my notifications page is getting longer and longer, and it's starting to become quite a job to scroll through it to pick and chose those tabblos that I still would like to receive comments about. I think it would be a great help if there were some way you could organize the list into categories for us. For example: My tabblos, My circle, My groups, and Others. ... Or perhaps some way to delete items from the notifications list, but maybe with the option to archive them as a separate list so that you still have a link to all the tabblos you felt inspired to comment about.

Once we have the categories with the finalists, we could vote on them. It would simply be for the recognition, but of course the folks at Tabblo could offer a gift certificate or two as a prize. Just a thought. Think about it!

How about more backgrounds like that -- perhaps like "starry night", "snowflakes", "seashells", "baby", etc. Or perhaps patterns or even textures. I experiment extensively with different color combos, but the basic tabblo styles are just feeling a bit stale...

One more observation -- on many styles the captions are so small that my older viewers are complaining that they can't read them. I've tried all different styles & colors to make them stand out more, but they're still fairly limited. Maybe something to look into?

Ned said at 9:09 p.m. on May 14, 2007:
You can make a photo cube kind of like this now. Don't put any picture on face 1, and put your four photos on faces 2 through 5. But rotate them all so they are upside-down.

Then when you make your cube, turn it over. It will sit on face 1 (which is why you don't want a photo there), the other four faces will be the sides (now right-side-up), and the top will be open!

Then, we can just type in whatever addresses or use our address book to specifically hit our targeted audience? I'd like "an exception to the rule."

Make sense?

The exception to the automatic email system is if you do this:
When you click continue from the edit page, and the privacy dialog comes up, choose private or invitees and continue. This way, no automatic email will be sent. Later, you can set it to public or circle if you want, and you can manually invite people.

Would that be a workable exception to the rule?
Thebeautifullife said at 2:36 p.m. on Apr 17, 2007:
Let me see if I got cha right:

I don't want to send my picture of a flower to my brother-in-laws. I DO wish to send it others on my list...so, I hit: PRIVATE and then send a SHARE to others I check off on my address list....handily stored in Tabblo.

Now, it goes out.

Then, I hit: PUBLIC.

Soooo....here's where I am questioning it: When I hit "PUBLIC" does it automatically re-send it out to everyone on my "send it" list????? OOOOORRRR, does it just "GO" Public??

If that is the case (the latter), that is perfect.

Just let me know if I have it right.

Thanks!

But, when I deleted, it was still in "most recently updated" and I was like "oh, nooooooooo"...and then asked for that upgrade to be put through asap so this doesn't happen again...I'd hate to see a child see that....or for anyone to think that was someone's "most recent upload" :D

Your "most recent photo" is cached on the server side. So even when you delete it, it hangs around in the cache for a few more minutes. That may be what happened.

Also, sometimes an unexpected photo gets mailed to an event tabblo. That might be the source of the image.

Also, is there a log for people that downloaded and purchase my pictures?
Dunster said at 11:26 a.m. on Mar 20, 2007:
We don't have a log for who purchased, but that is a good idea.

In addition to permitting purchasing, they also have to have access to the item. For instance, if your photos are set for "circle" viewership, only people in your circle can purchase prints. If you want a wider audience, set your photos for "public" and then anyone can buy prints.

Note that having a public tabblo means that anyone can buy a poster of the tabblo. But, the individual photos in the tabblo can't be printed by the public unless the individual photos are set for public. It's a bit of a twist where the tabblo (the photo combination) has a different privacy setting than the photos (the individual parts).

You can set the tabblo to invitation-only, and invite the people you want to be able to buy the tabblo.

We're considering a way to add more "circles." But for now, invitations are the most granular control that we have.

I meant 'It would be great', but I would be great also if this feature were implemented...
Dunster said at 11:37 a.m. on Mar 19, 2007:
Tell me more about this one. What would you do with the filter?

I have about 6000 photos on Tabblo, so a non-tabblo filter for me is an almost-everything filter.
Kusekhaya said at 8:56 p.m. on Mar 19, 2007:
well, i only use tabblo for tabblo's, so i'd be deleteing any photos that i didn't end up using, or making a tabblo out of them...

OK. Thanks for the added info. I'll include it in our next product feature discussion.

Drop Shadow created by Siagian on Mar 11, 2007:
Siagian said at 11:22 p.m. on Mar 11, 2007:
I think "drop shadows" enhances the pictorial experience here on tabblo. Unfortunately not all layouts have this feature. I would love to see more layouts featuring a variety of drop shadows. Thank you.

Woody.
Dunster said at 11:26 a.m. on Mar 19, 2007:
Thanks for the feedback. We're thinking about implementing this as an option. As in, almost any layout would permit dropshadows, and you would have control to turn them off or on. Would that do it?
JeroldsSis said at 11:45 p.m. on Mar 19, 2007:
Ooh! I'm all for drop shadows. I love the drama they add. Being able to turn them on/off works for me as long as I can have 'em!
Siagian said at 1:46 a.m. on Mar 23, 2007:
yes.Yes.YES!!! that would be awesome.
Engelgrafik said at 11:47 p.m. on Mar 25, 2007:
I thought almost all of the layouts have drop shadows? I actually have trouble finding layouts with NO drop shadows. Again, I'm speaking as a purist, but I tend to like most of my photos without any adornment... framing, drop shadows, etc. Just give me black or white background and I'm good. ;) Although, for my travel photos I do like to sometimes have drop shadows, because it's more about the story than the photos and the drop shadows give the eye a break from the same layer as the text.
Siagian said at 1:57 a.m. on Apr 1, 2007:
Jeff, while i agree with the purists that a good photo should be able to stand by itself without the fancy framing and such...im afraid my photos still have not achieved that level of quality hence the need for a little something to spice it up. so i guess the ability to turn it on or off would be the best solution for everyone.

Suggestion for a product/service created by Cruising on Mar 3, 2007:
Cruising said at 9:54 p.m. on Mar 3, 2007:
I would be willing to pay for the following service/product.

The ability to order a DVD or CD with my Tabblo(s) and their original uploaded images. So for example, after Basketball season, I would like to be able to

a) choose all the Tabblos, including posters, books or online Tabblos - via checklist

b) Request a DVD which contains the PNG or JPG file of the Tabblo, or a PDF of the book etc...

c) Request copies of all original images that went into the above Tabblos

be burned to CD/DVD and sent to me.

This would be an awesome digital media backup, with the added value of Tabblo being created and archived. I think it supports the space you are in (bridging online and print).
DVP said at 2:43 p.m. on Mar 4, 2007:
Ohhh Bob, great idea! I'd love it if you had option
D: provide a contact sheet(s) displaying what's on the DVD. 8.5x11 for easy insertion into a binder for archiving purposes.

Thanks for the thoughts. I think expanding our print line is probably going to come before adding digital media. But this is now on the list for future consideration.

Group home page - could we get a "total number of Tabblos" created by Cruising on Mar 2, 2007:
Cruising said at 9:42 a.m. on Mar 2, 2007:
When viewing a group of Tabblos, I didn't realize there were pages and pages...

I finally clicked the "View Other Group Tabblos" link.

But I thought that was all there was, until I went to a group that I "know" had many more. I finally found the more link.

I guess it was intuitive.

Suggestions:

Add a Total Tabblos in this group count to home page.

Change "View Other Group Tabblos" to "View All xxx Tabblos in this group" where xxx is a number

On the page viewing all Tabblos, possibly use a page 1 of 5 or something similar.

I'd take any of these :)

Thanks for a GREAT site.

I'll put this on the list of improving the Tabblo Groups area, thanks.

Descriptions would really be useful. created by Cruising on Feb 28, 2007:
Cruising said at 10:58 p.m. on Feb 28, 2007:
Kudos for the new styles you added. I also noticed that you now have "Hi username" as a link to our home page. THANK YOU!

But as a request, it would be great if you could put up a page that showed a sample of each style and listed style details, including each color code for each color element (background, field, text), default fonts, title font and alignment.

It is very difficult to go through the different styles and know what they are - and we don't have access to the style sheet to decipher this.

It would make the selection of various styles much more user friendly. Right now, we select a style or two we are used to, and reuse it.

Thanks for considering documenting the styles :)
Ned said at 7:42 a.m. on Mar 1, 2007:
That's an interesting idea. Sometimes it's hard for us to keep track of them, too!
Cruising said at 12:31 p.m. on Mar 1, 2007:
I would think (yep - I know I should stop that) - but I would think, this is an easy read the style sheet definition(s) and write out a simple help page.

Hek - I'd settle for the style sheets and I'd write the util :)
DVP said at 4:16 p.m. on Mar 3, 2007:
A different way of organizing them would be to define a style grouping. Style groupings could include 2 column, 3 column etc. or BIG photos, Little Photos & Giant Photos, or you could seperate them by COLOUR arrangements (blue/green/red/purple etc). Personally, I don't want to read a syle list... I'm a visual.

Numbering images in a tabblo created by Hollyridger on Feb 27, 2007:
Hollyridger said at 12:24 a.m. on Feb 27, 2007:
Is there any way you could number the images in a tabblo? When reading people's comments about a particular image in one of the larger tabblos it is so annoying to have to try to find the image. I often see comments on, say, "the tenth image from the top". It is not always certain that you are in fact looking at the correct image, depending on the layout chosen. Thanks...
DVP said at 6:55 p.m. on Feb 27, 2007:
I agree, it's difficult, but I find that just linking to the image with a tag, solves the issue for me.
Ned said at 6:54 a.m. on Mar 1, 2007:
Yes, I know what you mean. I've also found myself commenting and wanting to say something like, "I love the third one down on the left". But adding numbers to the tabblo would intrude on the author's control over their layout and design, and adding an option to show number is just one more option to overwhelm users.

It's a tricky UI problem, I'll give it some thought.

Unsubscribe to Comments on individual Tabblos created by AnotherSteve on Feb 26, 2007:
AnotherSteve said at 3:59 p.m. on Feb 26, 2007:
If you make a comment on an individual Tabblo, you have the checkbox that allows you to have other comments on that Tabblo mailed to you. This is a pretty cool feature.

That checkbox defaults to "checked" however, and once you have sent that comment, there is no way to go back and uncheck it. So if you later change your mind, you have no way to turn off that stream of emails. Could you make it so you can go back and change that setting?
Cruising said at 4:01 p.m. on Feb 26, 2007:
Just an FYI (from another Tabbloid user)... you can turn it off (after the fact). Go to the "View menu" and choose "notifications".

The second half of that page (scroll down) allows you to manage that area.

Minimizing the Tabblo bar created by BlueCockatoo on Feb 21, 2007:
BlueCockatoo said at 4:08 p.m. on Feb 21, 2007:
Hi all,

I just took my second look at Tabblo. I had played with it a long time ago when it was still in beta. It has come a long way since then!

I thought it would make the perfect way for a friend of mine with a small business to share some photos with some of his customers, but he's got pretty high standards for "professionalism" and as cute as the Tabblo logo is, I know that the gigantic conspicuous bar at the top of the tabblo pages will be an issue with him.

I think it would be nice if you could have the bar at the top not be there all the time, just show up when you need it, and in the mean time, just a small (like 50px tall maybe) bar to click on to unhide the menu.

As it stands, it is pretty distracting from the "serious" layouts", especially those that are dark, and since you guys are promoting being able to style things, it would be nice if you could let the WHOLE PAGE reflect your personality and style.

I know you can't get rid of the bar because of branding and such, but it would be nice if it could be minimized and color coordinated with the theme. http://www.yuku.com does a really good job of the kind of menu that I'm describing (you'll have to create an account to see it, unfortunately).

Just something to think about!
Thanks!
Dunster said at 11:01 a.m. on Feb 22, 2007:
Thanks for the feedback. We've had similar feedback about the menu, and we've thought about different ways to address it. This is a new take on a solution. I don't know when we'll tackle this one, but thanks for the idea.
Engelgrafik said at 9:43 p.m. on Feb 24, 2007:
BlueCockatoo, besides Tabblo possibly creating a "pro account" in the future, I don't see why a professional like your friend wouldn't want to use a more professional turnkey system like http://www.foliolink.com or http://www.livebooks.com . Foliolink is definitely cheaper but for about $500 your friend can have a very professional looking site and it will be google searchable.

Lightbox/Photo Viewing created by Purpletiger on Feb 17, 2007:
Purpletiger said at 7:03 p.m. on Feb 17, 2007:
There use to be a feature on Tabblo where I could view my photos in the lightbox. They were much easier to browse through, and find specific images if I wanted to do other things with them. Now when I load images, they go directly into a Tabblo page, and I can't find any options other than viewing all of the photos in "my Photos". It's very difficult to navigate and find what I need considering I have a very large amount of images loaded. Is there any way to add back features that allow for better navigations and searching of one's own images?
Cruising said at 11:49 p.m. on Feb 17, 2007:
I believe if you choose MAKE from the top menu, you will get to your lightbox. It's not when you are uploading - but hopefully it's a workaround that works for you.
Dunster said at 3:06 p.m. on Feb 18, 2007:
Cruising is right - that is a way to get to what we call the "photo organizer."

Change Thumbnail caption without changing the picture created by Burekas on Feb 17, 2007:
Burekas said at 5:47 a.m. on Feb 17, 2007:
Hi All,
When I just started my first tabblo, I often used the "scale&pan;" feature on my album thumbnails.
I did not realized that actions done with the "scale&pan;" will actually change my original images, I thought it will only create a more "interesting" thumbnails.
For example, if I have several portraits of the same guy includded in my tabblo, All of the thumbnails will look alike because they are small images of the same face. BUT if on one thumbnail I will zoom to his eye, on the other zoom to his lips and so on..., I will get a more diverse look on similaar pictures.

I think that the option of "scale&pan;" on the thumbnail only will be a grate feature that will place tabblo one (another) level about any service we know today.
Thanks.
Burekas said at 5:51 a.m. on Feb 17, 2007:
oh, and maybe we also need an edit option for messages in this forum because I have some embarrasing spell errors... :)
Dunster said at 3:08 p.m. on Feb 18, 2007:
Actually, your original images are unchanged. When you scale and pan, we change how it displays in the tabblo (or book or poster or whatever), but we don't modify the original.

Maybe I'm not understanding the question, though. Let me know.
Burekas said at 6:59 p.m. on Mar 25, 2007:
Hi,
Actualy you did understand me.. :)
Last time I tried it did change my original picture but I will give it another try and let you know...
Thanks!
Burekas said at 7:08 p.m. on Mar 25, 2007:
Well, I tried and the original picture is not affected from the zoom operation, but when you click on the image in order to see it bigger - you see the croped version of it.
For example, look at the top left picture here:
http://www.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view/232732/
(in the original pic you can see the whole stage - 3 guitar players)
When clicking on it you get to here:
http://www.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view_super/232732/i6089223/
Which is the cropped version.
Only after clicking on "more info" you get to the full original image here:
http://www.tabblo.com/studio/item/5637833/
Dunster said at 10:24 a.m. on Mar 26, 2007:
OK, I see what you're saying. Those links were helpful, thank you. By the way, that third link isn't a public one - your individual photos aren't set for public, though your tabblo is.

The thing I noticed in particular is that when you click on the tabblo and see the individual photo (the "super" view), we maintain the zoom, but we don't really maintain the crop - we just throw it into a rectangle.

I'll take another look at it and see if we can come up with a different flow. Thanks for pointing it out.
Burekas said at 2:15 p.m. on Apr 7, 2007:
Hi Dunster,
I am glad that the examples helped.
I think that the preffered flow (by me...) is that the super view will show the image un-cropped Without any zoom (just as the original.)
The thumbnail below can be zoomed and cropped.
Thanks.

Variations created by DVP on Feb 11, 2007:
DVP said at 1:20 p.m. on Feb 11, 2007:
Hello hello fabulous Tabblo folk.

Variation request: Can we please make books out of regular tabblos as a variation? Right now you're limited to making another on-line tabblo as a variation. It'd be fun to be able to make an on-line book from a tabblo.

Recently I started a tabblo and then realized it'd be more dynamic in a book format so I had to start all over. It would have been so much easier to make a book variation rather than starting from scratch.
Cruising said at 1:28 p.m. on Feb 11, 2007:
If you would have saved your partially built online tabblo, you could create a new book - and fill it with all the pics from that Tabblo. Is that what you meant?

In the picture chooser you can actually select an existing Tabblo to start from.
Dunster said at 2:16 p.m. on Feb 11, 2007:
It is possible to create a copy of an online tabblo and turn it into a book, poster, or anything else. On your online tabblo, click "purchase." You'll get a menu of books, posters, and postcards and create your book that way.

At this time this is a one-way operation - you can't get a book or poster BACK to an online tabblo, but we're looking for that in the future.
DVP said at 5:47 p.m. on Feb 12, 2007:
Bob - I was hoping to keep the text intact too.

Dunster, thanks for this work around - it accomplishes what I was trying to do.

The only problem with this, as I've found, is that I can only intermittently double click on my text boxes (When the alert icon for text problems is on.) to edit the text to fit. It seems to be pretty hit and miss. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. BETA. :)

Using the tabblo format for the display of single images created by Antonio on Feb 4, 2007:
Antonio said at 11:14 a.m. on Feb 4, 2007:
Hi everyone,

I've been doing some thinking lately about what we could do with the tabblo format for the display of individual images by which I mean having a tabblo that is meant to showcase just one image.

Have a look at this for an example of what I mean and leave your thoughts either here or in the comments on the tabblo.

Thanks and I hope everyone is having a good weekend!
Cruising said at 11:23 a.m. on Feb 4, 2007:
I have used Tabblo for just this several different ways. In a way, your postcard format suggests doing that too.

It would be helpful if we had a category (or set of) Tabblo's for just this purpose. One predefined format could be "Motivational Poster" for example, that pre-lays out a portrait and/or landscape Motivational poster format.

There could be a bunch of "frames" like picture frames to help show case the picture.

I am fine with the way it works now. But the "pre-defined" layouts might make a learning curve easier.

Were you thinking something differently?
JeffS said at 1:31 p.m. on Feb 4, 2007:
I've used a single photo for a few of my tabblos. The current layouts work well for square-cropped or horizontal shots. I've had trouble finding a good layout for vertical, though. So, I'd like to request that.

Here's a vertical one that I did recently. I had to struggle with it to get the image to a larger size (without cropping).

http://www.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view/202097/

Here's one that uses the standard formatting. I just put the text next to it. What I really wanted was to enlarge and center the photo and put the text below.

option out of notification based on new Tabbo when in someone else's circle created by Nhvwilt on Jan 23, 2007:

Nhvwilt said at 10:32 a.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
Just reread the right hand column for notifications ("Who can notify me when they create a new tabblo?") and no one is checked though I am still receiving notifications — so perhaps this is a Tabblo Issue rather than a Feature Request?
Dunster said at 6:02 p.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
In this context, there are two kinds of notifications. The first kind is "automatic." That's the kind that is on the notification page. If there is a checkmark in the "who can notify me" column, then you should get an email each time they make a tabblo.

The second kind is "manual." That's when someone specifically types in your email address or username to invite you. Generally, people use these sparingly, but sometimes they can be over-used.

Is it possible that you have more than one email address, and you've turned off "automatic" notifications on one address, but not the other?

Maybe you can forward one of them to help@tabblo.com? We can take a look.

Cruising said at 3:14 p.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
@DCS - that page is a bit broken. I have some folks I am unable to check and others that end up being checked even though I didn't check them.

I believe there is a thread in the Issues Group that describes this. Thanks.
Dunster said at 6:15 p.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
The notification page isn't the most intuitive.

The trick is that we're trying to manage both "push" and "pull" in the same place. For instance, if you add me to your circle, you can choose to receive notifications from me or not (that's "pull."). When you added me to your circle, then I got the option to notify you when I publish a new tabblo (that's "push."). Finally, if you choose to top receiving notifications, that's the last word; I no longer can "push" to you once you uncheck the box.

So, the people you can't check are presumably people who have chosen not to receive notifications. The people who are checked that you didn't do are people who chose to receive notifications.

Part of the challenge here is maintaining privacy. If person A doesn't want to get person B's notifications, we want to honor that. But, we also don't want to hurt person B's feelings. That requirement for discretion makes the page less intuitive.

At some point I expect we'll revise the "circle" feature and see if we can't iron out some of these kinks.

Are there any plans to increase the number of "professional-like" styles for tabblo? My current favorites are "moody" and "homestead"...more styles along these themes would make me very happy! Thanks.
Jackie said at 10:30 a.m. on Jan 22, 2007:
you got it. new styles are constantly cooking in the tabblo labs. we're shooting to get new ones on a regular release sked this year.

really appreciate hearing the ones you like most, too. (interesting that you named ones you characterize as "pro"). keep talking. other theme/style thoughts welcome, ppl ...
Siagian said at 3:47 a.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
that is awesome! thanks Jackie. im looking forward to it. a couple more that i like are "wedding traditional" and "adventure"...as you can see, im leaning toward strong framing and tasteful color combinations.

also, what do you think about different shaped frames like vertical or horizontal ovals?

=)
Cruising said at 8:26 a.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
Jackie,

One thing that would be VERY helpful, is that when a new style is released, could you post a note here so we can check it out.

So many times Tabblo releases something new (not just styles) and if we don't stumble on it, you don't get credit for such great upgrades.

Obviously things like Ratings are obvious to note. But other features don't always get noticed and Tabblo should get credit.

So a quick note when a new style is released is always appreciated.

Thanks for all of your hard work.
Jackie said at 8:34 a.m. on Jan 23, 2007:
Ain't that the truth, Cruising. Fact is there's more good stuff cooking than we duely advertise. Good to know that new styles are worthy of comment, too : ) And E., we'll use new mold shapes just as soon as we can. Good suggestions, guys. Thank you.

I screwed up and made a small book when I wanted a big book, so I think it would be nice to be able to interchange tehm. Plus what if you wanted a big bok for yourself and a small book for grandparents, it would not be fun to have to make them another one just like yours. It would make more sense to be able to keep what you created and get either size book. MAybe you can do this and I dont know about it, if so please tell me!
Thanks, Bree
Dunster said at 4:55 p.m. on Jan 21, 2007:
Thanks for the feedback. We definitely know that will be a good feature, but we're not there yet. The different aspect ratios of the books, and the different font sizes, make it more challenging than you might first think. It looks the same in the editor, but it's very different in the actual print format. We'll work on it, though.

Personally, I like getting emails. If I didn't, I probably wouldn't visit the site that much.

If you're having trouble controlling your Tabblo email messages, here's a suggestion. Create a rule in your email application of choice and make it so that all emails that have the word "Tabblo" in the subject go into a folder you created called "Tabblo". Pretty much every email application out there (even Webmail) should have the ability to a) let you create a folder and b) let you create a "rule" (they may call it something else... ) where you set up an action that delivers your emails a certain.

Do a little research in your email app and I think you'll agree this is a great way to control email.

I have rules for all sorts of stuff... even relatives who only send me joke emails! My inbox is always clean and happy!

Is there a way to assign/change the name of a Book Tabblo? created by Cruising on Jan 11, 2007:
Cruising said at 10:04 a.m. on Jan 11, 2007:
My best of 2006 book shows up as Cruising's Tabblo - but really this isn't mine at all :) it's everyones.

Is there any way to change the "name" or title of a book tabblo? If not - I'd like to suggest this as a future feature. Thanks.

(by the way - I like the changes to the book editor - definitely helpful).
Antonio said at 10:25 a.m. on Jan 11, 2007:
Yes absolutely! Just click into the title like you do in the online tabblos and you should be good to go.
Cruising said at 10:29 a.m. on Jan 11, 2007:
I can't find a Title for my Book Tabblo - where is it?

This is the Tabblo I am speaking of (I don't see the words Cruisings Tabblo anywhere in this book ) but that is the title listed everywhere.

Any suggestions?
Dunster said at 9:56 p.m. on Jan 11, 2007:
I think I know the issue here. In books, the title is just a "special" text block that is layed out automatically in the beginning. If that text block is deleted, there is no way to change the title. This doesn't affect online tabblos or posters because their titles are handled differently.

I think on this particular book you may be stuck. If you REALLY wanted to fix it, you could create a variation of it and make the old book private. But then you'd lose the comments and stuff like that.

We'll fix the book title feature in the future so that it's more robust. Sorry for the inconvenience until then.

Style info for a Tabblo created by Cruising on Jan 10, 2007:
Cruising said at 2:11 p.m. on Jan 10, 2007:
There are times you see a great Tabblo and are interested in what "template" they used, and what "settings" that are global (such as color) might have been changed. Would be neat if you could pull up this info from "any" Tabblo you can view (not just your own), so you can capture a look for another Tabblo.
Ned said at 10:16 p.m. on Jan 10, 2007:
We have a lot of ideas about how to share customizations of tabblo styles. We envisioned a way for users to turn tabblos into personal themes, that could then be shared with other users.

I guess being able to pick a tabblo to use as a theme from the Select Style page would also work. I'm OK with showing style information on a tabblo, but it isn't the handiest way to re-use the style.

Ok before you start raggin on me, think about it. Myspace is tha perfect place to "advertise" this site. If ya dont think so, go google -myspace customizations-. If you added myspace to blog list, put a HTML genarator on here, or at least some code to get to tha main user page, you might have more traffic on here than you can handle. (but TRAFFIC=$) Just kidding. Seriously, if you do this, and someone buys this site for 17 kadrillion dollards, I want some posters or somethin.
Ned said at 10:12 p.m. on Jan 10, 2007:
We have nothing against Myspace, so I won't rag on you. Because of the number of different blog systems, we focus on giving you a way to get the raw HTML. On the Share page, there's a link "Get HTML for your blog". The HTML from there can be pasted into any HTML page, including Myspace.

And here's a promise: if we get bought for 17 kadrillion dollars, I'll personally give you some posters!

Organizing Contacts created by MrsPinz on Jan 10, 2007:
MrsPinz said at 11:18 a.m. on Jan 10, 2007:
It would really be helpful if we had a way to group or organize our contacts and/or circle, as well as tag email addresses or tabblo member names with our own identifiers.

For example, I have tabblos that I only want to share with family & some with just friends. I photograph sporting events, and only want to share those photos with the teams. I was using the privacy setting of "view by invitation only", but as my contact list grows longer, it gets harder & harder to remember who is who by just their email address or tabblo member name. So I switched the privacy settings to "my circle only", and everyone I've already invited can see all of my tabblos. But it's a little weird when our teammates & their families view my family Christmas pictures, and my family doesn't really need or want to see all of our sports pictures. If we could organize our contacts into groups, then we could set the privacy of tabblos and photos by group designation

The other thing is that email addresses & tabblo member names often don't give you a clue as to who the person really is. So when I'm looking at my list of 100+ contacts, I have to remember that "mmmm5" is on our football team, "mmmv5" is my cousin, and "mvf558" is from our lacrosse team. Being able to give each contact our own identifier would be really helpful.

Well, right now that is the one thing that would really make things easier for me to manage my tabblos. Someone recently suggested that I have multiple tabblo accounts for the different groups, but that seems kind cumbersome too, since I'd have to replicate my tabblos for each of the new accounts. I hope you'll consider working on such a feature.

I love this site & everyone here is great. Keep up the good work!
Ned said at 10:05 p.m. on Jan 10, 2007:
We've long wanted to build these sort of sub-circles. It's on our list, though I can't promise any specific timetables.

Would be nice if in the upper right hand corner - where it shows Hi (for me Hi Cruising), it was a "link" to My Page. I find the "view" drop down works great but takes a click drag click. Would be nice to do a quick-click on the Hi Cruising etc...
Antonio said at 9:58 a.m. on Dec 31, 2006:
Great idea! What if we let you decide which page to go to first— the general main page or your "My" page?
Cruising said at 10:02 a.m. on Dec 31, 2006:
Even better idea!
Cruising said at 7:10 p.m. on Jan 1, 2007:
One other idea to add, is to possibly keep an "inbox" counter next to the name.

For example:

Hi Cruising (2 messages)

and it only shows if there are more than 0 messages. If I click it, it takes me to my inbox.

Right now, I have to reload "My Page" to see if I have new messages.... and as the community grows, this would be a little easier.

Thanks.
Cruising said at 8:59 a.m. on Jan 8, 2007:
One other thought... is it possible to add hotkeys or shortcuts (e.g. gmail has them as well as some other web apps)... maybe something to go to each of the "view" submenus - such as My Page, My Groups, My circle -

I can always ask - right??? :)

DVP said at 12:49 p.m. on Dec 30, 2006:
Yes, I was thinking of making the border feature portable to any of the tabblo layouts. That way after I create a tabblo then discover that I really need and/or want, borders I don't have to go back and change the style and colors all over again.

If you could add a drop-shadow feature that would be cool too. :)

My camera has a 16:9 native CCD. I could use a layout object that at least acknowledges that there can be images in other aspect ratios other than 4:3 or 3:2 or you know... square.

Of course after you add in some layout boxy thingie that can do that I'll probably start posting whacky panoramas... :)

Other than that. Good job. I thought about coding up some software to post photos myself, but you guys really did a nice job and help me avoid being a flickr whore.

What kind of code do your code monkeys like to write tabblo in?

--timball
Acmurray said at 5:06 p.m. on Dec 28, 2006:
You can make the photos any size and dimensions you want if you click the bottom right corner and drag it around. Also, have you experimented with the different layout settings? If you set it to Manual and make the snap grid smaller you have more minute control.
Ned said at 8:23 a.m. on Dec 29, 2006:
As Acmurray mentioned, you can corner-drag a photo to change its shape, and the fine snap grid will let you have more control. Would that work for you?

As to your other question: we code monkeys have written the server half of Tabblo in Python as a Django application, with some C++ for the image servers.
Cruising said at 10:06 a.m. on Dec 29, 2006:
Ned, Did you guys ever consider Ruby? Just curious - as Ruby seems to be the latest Python type language with lots of noise around the Rails architecture.
Ned said at 10:18 a.m. on Dec 29, 2006:
We're getting a little off-topic here, but I think Antonio considered Ruby at the very beginning. I joined Tabblo after the Django implementation was well underway, so I can't shed any light on the reasons for going with Python and Django. I'm just glad we did!

Creating a book... created by Cruising on Dec 24, 2006:
Cruising said at 12:58 p.m. on Dec 24, 2006:
I created my first book. Maybe I got lucky, but I had no issues with a book of 80 pages and 80+ pics.

One suggestion that I spent time with, was an easier way to remove blank pages. Maybe in the "sort view" to be able to check pages off and press a delete key. That tended to be time consuming.

Other than that - I loved it.

Can't wait to see my first (of many) books.
Cruising said at 3:33 p.m. on Dec 24, 2006:
I made a small book and purchased it. I realized I could use a large version very similar for our own home.

I wasn't looking forward to choosing the 70+ pictures.... so I thought - I could use the Lightbox and view by Tabblo - find my Book tabblo and I would be set.

Unfortunately, when viewing "By Tabblo" in the Lightbox, you can't choose a book tabblo.

This would be helpful in the future.

Thanks again for such great service and web site. I hope Google is paying attention!

organizing tabblos created by Acmurray on Dec 18, 2006:
Acmurray said at 5:01 a.m. on Dec 18, 2006:
Small and picky thing, but:
Could it be possible to list tabblos in a custom order rather than necessarily by the orders listed (sort of the way you can re-order your queue on Netflix)? That would make it easy to categorize them or to list them temporally by when the photos were taken and not by when the tabblo itself was made...
That's the only thing though. This site is amazing; I can't reiterate enough how frustrated I've been by every other photo album site on the web (free and subscription!) and how simply perfect Tabblo is.
Engelgrafik said at 8:06 a.m. on Dec 18, 2006:
i've always thought this way as well, but I thought I was the only one. :) I agree, it'd be nice to allow us to determine some of the ordering of our Tabblos.

Actually it makes sense because right now when it says "Engelgrafik's next Tabblo:", it's not really my NEXT Tabblo... it's my PREVIOUS Tabblo. I do a lot of "Day 1, Day 2" stuff and I do it in order. So when Day 3 is up at the top, it says "Engelgrafik's next Tabblo: Day 2". That's incorrect! :)

Dunster said at 11:33 a.m. on Dec 15, 2006:
Thanks for the feedback.

We did something good, but it makes some things harder. We calculate the shipping cost based on the current quantity (weight of items and destination). So, when you change the quantity we have to recalculate the shipping, which is why we make you go back to the cart to change quantity.

I'm sure we can fine a more elegant solution.

I think it would be a positive to keep it very Tabblo branded and allow them to go to the "home page", but if I could eliminate any of the other personal links on the top or bottom, I would feel more comfortable (ebay isn't as 'friendly' / trustworthy as our Tabblo community).... :)

Could you possibly post a change log when you update the site with any new features we can use? I know they added new features this afternoon, but haven't seen any yet. The Change Log would help.

By the way - can you tell us what is new today :)

Tabblos geared just to groups? created by Engelgrafik on Nov 25, 2006:
Engelgrafik said at 12:06 p.m. on Nov 25, 2006:
It would be nice if there was an option of making subsets of Tabblos that are geared towards groups. If you have a Tabblo geared towards just a particular group, maybe it would show up as a link on the Member page, saying something like "Tabblo residing only in the Landscape Group" or something like that.

The reason why is that sometimes I can find subsets of photos within Tabblos that would be good for a particular group, but I don't want to great a whole new Tabblo.

Maybe I'm just weird, I don't know, but most of my Tabblos are linear "stories". However, Groups are "topical" and I don't always feel like posting a whole new Tabblo with photos I've already posted.

OR... maybe you could add one more level of privacy to a Tabblo and make it "Available to Groups Only". Hey... now there's an idea!

Again, then you could put a link on the Member's page to those Tabblos. I dunno... maybe this is getting kinda complicated. lol

Just to grow your idea :) ...

We can tag Tabblos.... so if we could create "Views" of tabblo's based on tags, and label those views, it might make for "personal groups or categories" that would be available on our home page to share with others.

Of course, once you do this, we will probably ask for security and sharing of an entire view...

The reason a Group won't work for this, is that each of us can have our own "view" with the same name... Groups are community based views.

.... errrr.... or maybe not :)

Removing a tabblo from a group created by Dave.delay on Nov 24, 2006:
Dave.delay said at 5:58 p.m. on Nov 24, 2006:
By mistake, I added one of my tabblos to a group managed by another Tabblo member. Apparently, the group manager is able to remove the tabblo, but I can't. At least. I can't figure out how to do it.

Ideally, if you add a tabblo to a group, you should also be able to remove it.

Thanks.
Cruising said at 6:08 p.m. on Nov 24, 2006:
I think if you got to the Tabblo, and choose Share, and then choose the Share with Groups, you can "uncheck" the groups you want to remove it from.
Dave.delay said at 6:18 p.m. on Nov 24, 2006:
Ahhh. That worked.

I was doing it differently before. I clicked on Share in the top navigation bar. Then I selected the tabblo, clicked "Select groups for this tabblo", and unchecked the group. That did not work.

It seems you have to start the operation from the tabblo itself.

Thanks.

Dave, that sounds like a bug. I'll look into it. Thanks, Cruising, for giving that solution.

Analog to "This picture is in this tabblo xxx" you could have "This tabblo belongs to group yyyy"
Dcs said at 12:15 a.m. on Nov 21, 2006:
Ah, good idea. What do you think about showing other people which groups you're in?
Akeke said at 10:18 a.m. on Nov 25, 2006:
Yes! good to!

Panorama (or odd size picture print) created by ElZorroTOX on Nov 7, 2006:

I created a simple Tabblo (http://app.tabblo.com/studio/stories/view/124161/) from a stitch of six separate pictures. I'd like to be able to purchase these type of odd-sized pictures for framing.
Dunster said at 9:56 a.m. on Nov 8, 2006:
That is a neat looking picture.

I'm not sure we'll be expanding our prints in the next few weeks. I think you could turn that into a neat poster, though, and those do have custom lenghts.

(If you rotated it 90 degrees, you could get it 16" by 60" or something. If the original is a high enough resolution, that would be amazing!)

Just an idea: Add a Featured Group on the Community page also. Might give the group feature a boost
Akeke said at 11:25 a.m. on Nov 6, 2006:
Or at Group Page!
Dunster said at 9:52 a.m. on Nov 8, 2006:
Thanks for the groups feedback. After putting up the basic group feature, we're considering what our next steps are.

It would be nice to be able to have a background image with a "transparent" filter-feature of course. I know the idea is: "keep it simple" but more advanced user would surely use it (with sometimes confusing result of course!! ) :-)))
Dunster said at 11:03 a.m. on Nov 6, 2006:
Thanks for all these. We'll use them in our next-feature-to-build discussions.

As it is now, its hard to remember the dialog you have with circle-members as you cant see the whole tread of conversation. As the messages stack up I will not remember why I sent a message or what I said.

Maybe it could cause some fun missunderstanding :-))

personal grouping created by Jasontengco on Nov 3, 2006:
Jasontengco said at 1:44 a.m. on Nov 3, 2006:
i was thinking that maybe we, on a per user level, could group our tabblos into categories that we could define. For example, i could have a "family" category and i group tabblos there. but a tabblo can only belong to one category. So on my page, instead of seeing alot of tabblos, i hope to see some sort of folder or category :)
Akeke said at 12:53 p.m. on Nov 3, 2006:
I think the group features covers most of that need, doesnt it?
Jasontengco said at 9:33 p.m. on Nov 5, 2006:
hmm in a way yes, but having it on a personal level gives us more control of our own tabblos :)
Akeke said at 12:24 a.m. on Nov 6, 2006:
Yea

It is goog to have a diary like a format page within a system for members with privacy setting so that a member can write diary and visit your site every day or as much as they want to make note of a day almost like pohotgraph.
also set up a bithday alarm by e-mail. these two features will make your site more useful for members
